Digital media refers to any type of information in digital format including computer-generated text, graphics and animations, as well as photographs, animation, sound and video. The media landscape has changed forever. For media consumers, digitalisation has expanded the media usage options with a growing number of digital choices.

The purpose of this subject is to provide you with the knowledge and skills to describe the range and scope of interactive digital media components and products and to describe and use a media asset register.

1.4 Describe the issues relating to rapid technological change including
electronic media and digital photography to deliver specific outcomes

On completion, the learner should be able to explore the scope of digital media

2.1 Explore the scope of digital media
2.2 Identify and explain the authoring role of a digital media project
2.3 Outline the components of various digital media projects including text,
graphics, photography, typography, sound, animation and video
2.4 Describe the use of digital media for
delivering a specified outcome
2.5 Explain the difference between passive and interactive digital media
2.6 Identify the features of contemporary digital media software relevant to
text, graphics, photography, typography, sound, animation and video to
ensure application to outcome is relevant
2.7 Identify and distinguish the suitability of the use of digital media with
respect to a variety of outcomes including newspapers, magazines, digital
printing, Internet WWW page, digital bill boards, CD-ROM, and DVD

On completion, the learner should be able to outline the role of digital media

4.1 Define the attributes of a digital media generalist
4.2 Describe several specialist occupations in the digital media sector

Outcome 5:

On completion the learner should be able to identify and describe the various
media that typically make up a digital media product.
Assessment Criteria
5.1 Describe the features of each media element.
5.2 Outline the benefits and drawbacks that each media element brings to
communication with the audience.
5.3 Evaluate each media element with regard to its appropriateness.

Outcome 6:

On completion the learner should be able to describe the historical development
as well as current and future trends in the field of digital media.
Assessment Criteria
6.1 Describe the historical development of digital media.
6.2 Outline current and future trends in digital media development.

Outcome 7:

On completion the learner should be able to identify the function and audience
for a range of digital media products.
Assessment Criteria
7.1 Outline the main uses or functions of digital media products.
7.2 Identify the target audience for a variety of digital media products

Outcome 8:

On completion the learner should be able to describe and use a media asset
register.
Assessment Criteria
8.1 Describe the purpose of a media asset register.
8.2 Describe the format of a media asset register.
8.3 Describe the procedure for using a media asset register.


ASSESSMENT

Results are reported as DISTINCTION, CREDIT, PASS, FAIL.
DISTINCTION >= 83, CREDIT >= 70, PASS >= 50
Assessment Events:
In addition to an overall pass in the module, students must pass each assessment
event.

2 Practical Assignment,Outcomes 1,2,4,5, Weighting 40%
3 Written Assignment, Outcomes 3,6,7,8, Weighting 40%
